ESG Impact through Traceability
Jayson Berryhill from Wholechain emphasized the pivotal role of blockchain traceability technology in regulatory compliance, supply chain integrity, and achieving environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives.
Blake Stok (Chicken of the Sea Frozen Foods) and Brad Spear (Sustainable Fisheries Partnership) presented a case study on Blue Swimming Crab Salad, demonstrating traceability through Wholechain’s platform using SFP’s Fishery IDs. This partnership provides transparency and enhances consumer trust while supporting ocean health and sustainable sourcing.
Throughout the event, speakers highlighted how traceability supports economic opportunities and sustainable practices for small-scale fisheries. Steve Hart (Global Seafood Alliance) and Citlali Gomez Lepe (Neminatura) detailed their certification sponsorship program in Yucatán, Mexico. This initiative empowers artisanal seafood processors, like Combamar, enabling access to international markets through sustainable certifications, substantiated by Wholechain's traceability technology.

Aquaculture Innovations: Feed to Plate Sustainability
Sustainable aquaculture was another focal point. BioMar's Blue IMPACT feed, highlighted through dishes featuring OpenBlue cobia and LAMAR S.A. meagre, exemplified responsible ingredient sourcing practices. Superior Fresh showcased its innovative approach to sustainable salmon farming combined with hydroponic organic greens, using advanced LED technology.
Market Innovation for Biodiversity: Introducing Blue Catfish
The final course featured Blue Catfish provided by Tilghman Island Seafood. An invasive species threatening biodiversity in the Chesapeake Bay, this initiative seeks to create a retail market for the species, encouraging local fishers to harvest it, thus protecting regional biodiversity.
